An Order Status is the indicator of the state of an order during its handling process. Through an order status, customers and business owners are both notified of the status of their orders, including their location, and whether they have been packed, shipped, or paid for, among other details. In order to effectively manage orders and create a credible brand for your customers, it is essential for Magento 2 stores to create Order Status. In this blog, you will learn how to set up order statuses in Magento 2.
You can make a new one, assign it to the order state, establish it as the default status for that state, or remove it during configuration. Let’s find out how to set up order statuses in Magento 2 in 4 easy steps.
STEP 1: CREATE A CUSTOMER ORDER STATUS
To start the process to set up order statuses in Magento 2, go to the Admin Panel, and click on STORES. From there, go to SETTINGS > ORDER STATUS. Here, click on CREATE NEW STATUS which you will find in the upper-right corner of the screen.
You can then add a STATUS CODE for internal reference under the section labeled ORDER STATUS INFORMATION. While the first character must be a letter, the rest can be a mix of letters and numbers, and the field must contain the letters (a-z), the number (0-9), and the underscore instead of a space. Now, set a STATUS LABEL for the Admin and Storefront.
For each store view on your store, you can set the STORE VIEW SPECIFIC LABELS, and then click SAVE STATUS to complete and save your progress.
STEP 2: ASSIGN AN ORDER STATUS TO A STATE
To set up order statuses in Magento 2, you will need to assign that status to an existing state. For that, you can go to the ORDER STATUS page, and click on the ASSIGN STATUS TO STATE button.
When the new window opens on the ASSIGN ORDER STATUS TO STATE section, select ORDER STATUS from among the existing list of the order status, to assign. To include the order status you just assigned, select ORDER STATE. Then, to include the order status you just assigned, select the Order State option. Tick the USE ORDER STATUS as Default checkbox to accept the order status as the default status. Please choose the VISIBLE ON STOREFRONT checkbox to enable the order status on the storefront. To successfully finish and save this step in the process to set up order statuses in Magento 2, go ahead and click on SAVE STATUS ASSIGNMENT in the top right corner.
STEP 3: CUSTOMIZE THE STATUS OF AN EXISTING ORDER
Once you set up order statuses in Magento 2, any existing order status can have its information edited. To edit already set up order statuses in Magento 2, start by opening the edit page after locating the order status in the list of statuses. Next, modify any order status data as necessary. To save the changes you have made, click SAVE STATUS.
STEP 4: HOW TO REMOVE AN ORDE STATUS FROM THE CURRENT STATE
Order status can be deleted, but the one that is currently in use would need to be disabled first.
In the list of order statuses, locate the one you want to remove. Then, on the related row, click the UNASSIGN link under the ACTION column.
A notification of the assignment will then show at the top of the workspace immediately after that. The order status is unassigned, yet it is never removed from the grid and is instead kept there.
